Manchester United midfielder Joe Rothwell has returned to the club after an unsuccessful loan spell at struggling Championship side Blackpool.

Financial issues have hampered the side’s season and after being cut adrift at the bottom of the table, the Seasiders seem certain to be relegated to League One at the end of the current campaign.

20-year-old Rothwell embarked on his first loan spell away from Old Trafford towards the end of the January window but had to wait a month to make his full debut after several brief substitute appearances.

Unfortunately for the midfielder, his full debut came in a 4-0 thumping to promotion chasers Brentford, a match where the home side had over 40 efforts on the Blackpool goal.

Sadly for Rothwell, it was far from the ideal place to try and make a name for yourself and the horrific pitch at Bloomfield Road made it almost impossible for the midfielder to hone his passing skills.

There is still hope for Rothwell within Old Trafford though, academy manager Paul McGuiness has previously praised Rothwell for his talent and it would be great for fans to see him get a better chance to impress away on loan next season.
