Ed van Stijn believe PSV’s Memphis Depay is a far more rounded and better player by 21 than Cristiano Ronaldo was at Manchester United.
The Dutch scout watched Ronaldo when he was a teenager and insisted the 21-year-old winger is a far more complete player than Ronaldo.
Speaking about Depay, van Stijn said: “Depay you do not judge on his technique”
“With him you look at what he’s doing with that technique to utilize as much as possible. How he makes sure he as much one-on-one’s standing with his face to the goal. It all comes down to details.
“If I compare him to a young Cristiano Ronaldo at the time, then Depay has more strings to his bow. I like him better.”
“Ronaldo did even the same things wrong at Manchester United that he did when he was 17.”
At 17, Ronaldo was nothing more than a greasy haired but he transformed himself into the world’s best player through hard work and determination, two traits which are just as important for the success of a footballer as how good he is at the game in the first place.
With an incredible 16 goals to his name, Depay has been on fire this season and the rumours linking him with Man United will only continue, especially after PSV admitted he has the option to leave.
