Rooney should definitely be in attack for Man United but the inclusion of Fellaini from the start is questionable.
Red News editor Barney Chilton has been spot on with his early team news on every occasion this season and there’s no reason to believe that trend won’t continue tonight.
Fellaini’s inclusion ahead of Radamel Falcao would be indicative of Louis van Gaal taking a slightly more cautious approach to the game but there would understandably be some concerns about playing Fellaini from the start.
That being said, Fellaini’s performance against Newcastle United was actually one of his best this season and up against Per Mertesacker in Arsenal’s defence, the added height could be a real asset to United on the night.
United’s win at the Emirates earlier this season was built on a counter-attacking formation but at Old Trafford tonight, they have the home advantage and you’d expect them to press Arsenal higher up the pitch, something Fellaini would be able to do better than Juan Mata.
As for the rest of the line-up, we’ll have to wait until about 6.45pm when it is officially announced by the club.
