FATV have looked back on their top five FA Cup meetings between Arsenal and Manchester United ahead of the latest instalment on Monday night.
First of all, the 2005 final at Wembley is shown when Patrick Vieira sealed the Cup for Arsenal with the decisive penalty after a tense shootout. It was a difficult one for United to take as they had been much the better side during the game.
Rewinding to 1983, Bryan Robson scores as Ron Atkinson’s United side secures a 2-1 triumph over the Gunners at Villa Park before Darren Fletcher grabs a brace on the way to a 4-0 win under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2008.
Perhaps the most famous game between Arsenal and United is shown next. The clash will be remembered for Ryan Giggs’ wonder-goal to win the semi-final replay 2-1 but David Beckham and Dennis Bergkamp scored equally good goals during the match. All United fans will know what happened next as the club went on to seal a historic treble.
Finally, Arsenal are shown celebrating on the Wembley pitch as they beat United 3-2 in the 1979 final. But enough about that, we’d much prefer to watch Giggs’ chest hair.
