Manchester United’s David de Gea is undoubtedly the best goalkeeper in the world right now.
The Spaniard is enjoying his finest season in a Man United shirt and he continued his fantastic form by producing a string of superb saves against Arsenal in the FA Cup on Monday to deny Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla.
Former Man United captain Roy Keane was full of praise for De Gea following the tie but was right in saying that the team are giving him far too much to do.
As it panned out, the 24-year-old could do nothing about Antonio Valencia’s awful back-pass which led to Danny Welbeck’s late winner but pulled off a string of other top class saves throughout the game to keep United in it.
De Gea has been United’s player of the season and simply doesn’t deserve to have such an inept defence in front of him.
With Louis van Gaal’s side strongly linked with the likes of Mats Hummels and Raphael Varane this season, it appears United are keen on strengthening their back line but it remains to be seen whether De Gea will remain at the club.
Real Madrid have seemingly made their intentions clear when it comes to a summer transfer for De Gea and a number of reports have come out over the season linking him with a return to his homeland. De Gea has given his all for United this season and, if the team do not make the Champions League next year, speculation over his future will only intensify.
Please stay, Dave.
