Roy Keane firmly believes Manchester United’s David de Gea is currently the best goalkeeper in the world but that Louis van Gaal should be concerned with how much work his side is giving the Spaniard.
De Gea has undoubtedly been Man United’s best player this season and he continued his fantastic form with a string of superb saves against Arsenal on Monday night.
Unfortunately for United, he could not stop Danny Welbeck scoring a late winner as Arsenal knocked their opponents out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win.
Keane says De Gea is the best in the world in his position but that United are giving him too much work to do.
“But for United, it’s not a good sign at the moment when he’s getting man of the match most weeks.”
Keane is bang on with his comments because United shouldn’t be relying so much on De Gea in much the same fashion as they were last season and it’s a big concern how much he has hailed to bail his team-mates out.
De Gea’s contract runs out in 16 months and his future at Old Trafford is far from certain.
Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old and his silence on the situation speaks volumes. With United facing the prospect of another trophyless season, De Gea may well be on his way out of the club in the summer.
