Andy Kellett nominated for Goal of the Year award

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United defender Andy Kellett has been nominated for the Mitre Goal of the Year award following his strike for Plymouth Argyle against Northampton Town earlier this season.

When he picked up the ball on the left hand side, Kellett drove at the Northampton defence and beat several opponents before he poked the ball into the net.

Kellett’s goal is up against efforts from the likes of Rohan Ince, Craig Westcarr, Marcus Maddison and Joe Garner.

The award is given to the player who scored the best goal in the Football League during that calendar year.

Man United scouts were clearly impressed and they signed Kellett from Bolton Wanderers on deadline day, with Saidy Janko going the other way.

The move surprised a lot of fans, particularly as the club had been linked to players such as Mats Hummels and Raphael Varane during the transfer window.

Kellett completed his United debut for the club’s U21s against Sunderland in February alongside Sadiq El Fitouri.
