Radamel Falcao’s exit will keep Robin van Persie at Manchester United – report

Radamel Falcao’s poor loan spell at Manchester United means Robin van Persie will stay at Old Trafford, according to the Telegraph’s Mark Ogden.

Falcao joined Man United on a season-long loan deal from Monaco last summer amid a flurry of excitement but he has failed to live up to a world-class reputation during his time at the club.

Having scored just four goals for United, it is likely they will not take up an option to sign him permanently in the summer.

Van Persie has also suffered from an indifferent season and there have been question marks over his future but Falcao’s shortcomings mean the Dutchman will be expected to see out the final year of his contract next season.

The duo’s troubles have frustrated fans as United have regularly looked out of ideas in attack.

Van Gaal seems to have lost faith with Falcao and the likes of Juan Mata, instead opting to play the ball directly onto the head of Marouane Fellaini in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Monday. It is a negative tactic and one that should be changed next season following a summer clear out.
