Luke Shaw thanks Manchester United fans after Arsenal loss

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has thanked fans for their continued support despite the team being knocked out of the FA Cup by Arsenal on Monday night.

Wayne Rooney cancelled out Nacho Monreal’s opener but Danny Welbeck capitalised on an Antonio Valencia mistake late on to seal a 2-1 victory for the Gunners.

Angel di Maria compounded Man United’s misery by receiving two yellow cards in the space of a minute during the match, firstly for diving and then for tugging on referee Michael Oliver’s shirt.

Shaw, who joined for £27m last summer, admitted the defeat was tough to take but said United must regroup in order to finish the season strongly.

Having come back from injury, Shaw only lasted 45 minutes against Arsenal as he was not 100% fit for the game.

The 19-year-old has had a stop start season for United due to injury which is typical for Louis van Gaal given that Shaw’s fitness was never an issue at Southampton.

Looking forward to this weekend, United have an opportunity to put their FA Cup demons to bed up against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday as the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League hots up.
