Pochettino, who now manages Tottenham Hotspur, coached Shaw when he was in charge of Southampton.
Van Gaal has switched between a number of formations this season having used 3-5-2, 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 at various points of the campaign.
Although the Dutchman is yet to decide on his best system Shaw has always been in the starting XI when free of injury. Shaw explained that van Gaal’s training methods are more tactical than Pochettino’s.
Speaking about training under the pair, Shaw said: “It’s a little bit similar, but I think it is more tactical here with what we do in training, and different to the sessions at Southampton.”
The 19-year-old has been in and out of the team at United due to a number of niggling injuries but has impressed whenever he’s got on the pitch.
Shaw started against Arsenal in the FA Cup on Monday night but was substituted at half-time as he was not 100%.
The Englishman’s inclusion in the team makes United look far more solid defensively as it allows Marcos Rojo to take a place at centre-back so fans will be hoping Shaw starts against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
