With 19 goals to his name in all competitions, Depay has been in electric form which has certainly helped speculation gather pace and following these latest reports which suggest a deal is now already in place, Depay to United is quickly growing into one of this year’s potential transfer sagas.
Depay would be a superb signing in an area where Man United simply haven’t been good enough for quite some time and if van Gaal does intend to use a 4-3-3 formation on a permanent basis in the long term, he is perfectly suited as a winger in that set-up.
Nani is likely to be sold, Antonio Valencia isn’t good enough, Angel di Maria hasn’t been good enough, Adnan Januzaj hasn’t played enough and Ashley Young has been good enough. Overall, United’s wingers have drastically underwhelmed, which is one of the reasons why the idea of signing Depay is so appealing to fans.
Time will tell as to whether these latest stories on Depay turn out to be the truth but seeing as PSV boss Philip Cocu has already admitted he expects the Dutch winger to leave this summer, an exit from the Eredivisie seems to be an inevitability.
