Javier Hernandez: I’m the real Real deal

by Sam Peoples

Javier Hernandez remains supremely confident in his own ability despite an indifferent season so far on loan at Real Madrid.

The Mexican striker has played a bit part role under Carlo Ancelotti and has had to contend with rare appearances from the bench even though Madrid’s forwards are currently misfiring.

Hernandez has only played 209 minutes in La Liga this season in 12 appearances (11 from the bench) yet his confidence has not been dented by a lack of game time in Spain.

“I feel on a par with the best in the world,” Hernandez said.

“I am here for something and, in the few opportunities that I have had, I have tried to show it.

“I will be prepared for that opportunity that I am waiting for.

There’s nothing wrong with some self confidence, every footballer needs it to succeed, but Hernandez is not on a par with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Sorry to break it to you Chicharito.

Back in his first season at United, Chicharito was deadly. If we needed a goal, he’d invariably pop up and he deservedly was lavished in praise but since then it’s not been plain sailing for the Mexican.

Now on loan at Madrid, he is suffering from the same lack of game time which frustrated him at United and although he remains confident in his own ability, none of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal or Carlo Ancelotti found a way to get him into their starting XI on a regular basis.

At this stage his future is uncertain. He could return to Man United but given that van Gaal was all too ready to let him leave on loan last summer, his career at Old Trafford may well be over.
