Ricardo Rodriguez’s agent confirms Manchester United contact but plays down move

The agent of Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez has revealed Manchester United have been in contact with him but insists the Bundesliga club have no intention of selling him.

Flying high this season, Rodriguez’s Wolfsburg are second in the Bundesliga behind the indomitable Bayern Munich and is enjoying a strong campaign himself.

This is not the first time that the 22-year-old has been linked with Man United as back in the summer before Luke Shaw was signed, Rodriguez was named as one of Louis van Gaal‘s potential targets.

Rodriguez’s agent Gianluca di Domenico made Wolfsburg’s stance over his future very clear: “I can say that United have called for information, but that Wolfsburg do not want to give in. With Real there was nothing official.”

It would be strange for Man United to be interested in signing Rodriguez this coming summer because of Shaw but it is a timely reminder of how the 19-year-old really hasn’t made the left-back position his own this year since his big money move from Southampton.

Next season, fans will be expecting to see a much improved Shaw so long as he is able to maintain his fitness which is one of the problems which has blighted him all year long under Louis van Gaal.
