Marcos Rojo doubtful for Tottenham Hotspur due to injury

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed Marcos Rojo is a doubt for the game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Rojo picked up a minor problem during the 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Arsenal on Monday night.

The news will come as a blow to United fans as the team looks far more solid defensively with him in the starting XI.

Instead, van Gaal may have to turn to the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling when he picks his team against Spurs.

Jonny Evans’ six game ban due to spitting means United are already short of options in defence and any injury to Rojo would limit van Gaal’s choices even further. Some fans were sarcastically happy about Evans getting such a long ban but that would certainly not be the case if United suffer any more defensive injuries.

Rojo has put in a number of good performances having settled quickly into life at Old Trafford so for him to now suffer another injury ahead of the big run-in would be cruel timing, both for him and United. Hopefully van Gaal’s concern is nothing more than precautionary.
