James Wilson had to be substituted before half-time tonight during Manchester United’s U21s match against Everton.
The 19-year-old was struggling from very early on in the game and although he looked to have recovered as the half progressed and got on the score sheet, his problems forced him to limp off.
With Robin van Persie already injured and the indifferent Radamel Falcao still yet to properly make his mark at Old Trafford, an injury to Wilson would leave Wayne Rooney as the only fit and in-form striker available to Louis van Gaal ahead of Liverpool this weekend.
Wilson has struggled with injuries all year long right from back in the pre-season where he broke a finger through to what looks like a potential muscular injury tonight.
Throughout his career, Wilson has had to battle against his body to stay fit and another injury blow would be such a set back for him because opportunities loom between now and the end of the season under van Gaal thanks to United’s misfiring strikers.
Van Gaal will be praying that Rooney doesn’t suffer an injury this week during training because without him, United’s already blunt attack would then be almost non-existent for Liverpool.
