Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United’s resounding 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur has put his former club Liverpool under pressure in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
Man United were in superb form against Spurs, playing arguably their best football of the season as goals from Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney wrapped up an important three points.
The result moved Louis van Gaal’s side five points clear of fifth placed Liverpool, who take on Swansea City on Monday night before facing United at the weekend.
Carragher says United’s performance puts the pressure on Liverpool and that it will be a difficult game against Swansea.
Speaking about the match, Carragher said: “One of Man United’s best performances just before they come to Anfield has put Liverpool under pressure tomorrow at Swansea. If Liverpool could win it will enable them to have it in their own hands for a top 4 place but won’t be easy against the Swans.”
It’s amazing how United have stayed in front of Liverpool despite a number of poor performances prior to the Spurs game.
Fans will not want to admit it but Liverpool have played very well ever since the start of the year. United, on the other hand, had squeezed out results. However, if van Gaal’s side play as well as they did against Spurs when they visit Anfield on Sunday, they will get a positive result.
