Man United were much improved against Spurs and produced arguably their best football of the season.
It was a scintillating display from United and Fellaini said Rooney’s speech played a big part in the victory:
Fellaini says a Rooney speech last night galvanised United “it was a very important speech” he said.

Say what you want about Rooney as a person but his performance against Spurs, the day after a video leaked to the press of him being knocked out by Phil Bardsley in a play fight, was a captain’s performance.
He led by example both in attack and defence with contributions at either end of the pitch and, as Fellaini explained, is clearly making an impression on the players as captain as well. Louis van Gaal certainly doesn’t have a bad to word to say about the 29-year-old and his performances.
Rooney was not the first choice for lots of United fans to become captain after Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra left but match winning performances like today when he has a chip on his shoulder kicked back to the old Rooney who was previously so indomitable.
Hopefully he can take that form to Anfield next weekend and break his curse of under-performing against Liverpool in their own back yard.
