Spanish football aficionado Graham Hunter believes Manchester United will look into the possibility of signing Real Madrid duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in the summer.
Both players have come under fire from Madrid fans in recent weeks following a tough run of form.
The club have squandered their La Liga lead to Barcelona and only just held off Schalke 04 in the Champions League, losing 3-4 in the second leg of their round of 16 tie but going through on aggregate.
Hunter says both Ronaldo and Bale face uncertain futures at the Bernabeu and that they may be tempted to leave by Man United and Manchester City.
Speaking about the pair’s future, Hunter said: “Beyond August is a very, very big question. That’s because, one, I think there’s nothing to report now in that neither is (Real Madrid manager Carlo) Ancelotti sacked, nor is Ronaldo sold, nor has Bale decided to leave.
“But there is a very clear opinion among the two Manchester clubs, and I mean City as well as United, that they think they have an opportunity to come and buy Ronaldo.
“Honestly, my opinion is we have to wait and see because I think he (Ronaldo) will be tempted. He will be asked by both Manchester clubs. I think that goes for Bale too.
“It has been a talking point among the Manchester City players for a great part of the last 10 days.”
The fact that Madrid fans have been booing two of the world’s best players following a few tough games is absolutely ridiculous.
Ronaldo, in particular, would certainly be welcomed back to Old Trafford with open arms having previously left United for Spain in 2009. Fans at United treat their players with respect regardless of form, as exemplified by the Radamel Falcao chants in the Tottenham Hotspur game on Monday despite his current troubles.
