Wolfsburg boss Dieter Hecking admits Kevin de Bruyne is aware of interest from some top clubs around Europe but insists the Belgian midfielder is not interested.
De Bruyne joined Wolfsburg from Chelsea this year and has gone on to have an incredible impact at the German club. With 14 goals and 25 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions, De Bruyne’s form has been absolutely sensational which has led to the likes of Manchester United being linked with a move.
With numbers like those, it’s no surprise to hear multiple clubs are interested in De Bruyne but Hecking is convinced the 23-year-old isn’t being distracted by the rumours.
“He is aware of the interest from the top European clubs,” Hecking said.
“But he has given me the impression that he is not interested in the matter; he just wants to play football.
“Kevin is smart, he is not promising that he will stay at Wolfsburg until 2019 but I can see him playing for us in the Champions League next season.”
With Wolfsburg flying high in the Bundesliga on 53 points in second, nine above Borussia Monchengladbach, they are on course for Champions League qualification next year but as is always the case with Europe’s best players, interest from other clubs will only grow stronger the more they are in the limelight.
De Bruyne left Chelsea in order to revitalise his career which he has certainly done with Wolfsburg but if he can continue on this upward streak, the German club won’t be able to hold onto him forever.
