The 33-year-old agreed a one-year extension to his current contract, meaning he will be tied to the club until June 2016.
Carrick’s new deal is richly deserved as Man United have looked a far better team this season with him in it.
The player himself was delighted to commit to the club and said Van Gaal is guiding his players in the right direction.
Speaking about his new contract, Carrick said: “It’s fantastic to know that I can continue my incredible journey with this great club.
“I am thoroughly enjoying my football and the team are progressing in the right direction under Louis van Gaal.
“We’re all incredibly focused on getting the club back where it belongs and competing with the best in the world.”
After a disastrous campaign under David Moyes last season, it is good to see a United manager command respect from his players.
Despite the troubles that Radamel Falcao, Juan Mata and Angel di Maria have experienced this term, none of them have publicly come out and criticised van Gaal. It is refreshing after last year, where players such as Rio Ferdinand attacked Moyes in the press.
