Herrera was influential in United’s 3-0 over Tottenham last week and the Spaniard continued his good form with a beautiful pass to play in his international colleague Juan Mata for the opening goal against Liverpool.
After a good start to life at Old Trafford, United supporters quickly fell in love with their new man.
But a combination of injuries and bad luck saw Herrera drop out of the team and the 25-year-old did not start a Premier League game in two months. He appears to have put that behind him and fans were delighted with his contribution at Anfield:
Herrera made the whole Liverpool defence irrelevant with one pass.

Ander Herrera was absolute boss in midfield. Absolute boss.

Strange to think that Ander Herrera couldn't get a game earlier in the season. Brilliant first half from him, making United tick.

No shocker that Herrera is around when United play well. Mint player.

Van Gaal’s decision to employ a 4-3-3 formation in recent weeks has made Herrera a central part of the team and his influence is growing by the week.
Fans will only wonder where United would be had the new boss sussed out his best team and formation earlier in the season.
