Manchester United have been told a bid of €45m would be enough to secure the signature of Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels, reports German newspaper Bild.
Dortmund have conceded it is unlikely they will qualify for the Champions League next season and that they may need to sell their best players in order to raise funds, which has only helped to fuel speculation of an exit for Hummels.
However, they are not going to sell Hummels cheap. He is one of their best players and Bild say the club are reluctant to budge on a €45m fee:

Hummels is one of the biggest namees United could buy in the summer and his trait of playing out with the ball from defence is certainly something that would appeal to van Gaal’s style.
Van Gaal has been forced to blood youngsters such as Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett at the back this season and is clearly looking for some world-class talent to add some depth in his squad but whether Hummels wants to abandon Dortmund after this season remains to be seen given he is their captain.
