The 24-year-old goalkeeper has played like a man possessed and he is responsible for winning so many points for Man United.
Performances such as at home against Everton and away to Arsenal have been phenomenal and Neville has backed him to become a great goalkeeper.
Speaking on Sky Sports about player of the year contenders, Neville said: “If you look at the improvements he has made from where he was three years ago, it is absolutely staggering. He is dominating one-on-ones, there has been a physical maturity and there has been a technical improvement, too. He has become a great goalkeeper.”
When you consider a goalkeeper is supposed to peak later in his career, De Gea is years ahead of where he should be right now.
There are only a select few keepers in history such as Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus) and Iker Casillas (Real Madrid) who established themselves at one of Europe’s super clubs at such a young age, and De Gea is following in their footsteps.
De Gea has shown how important it is to have a world class keeper in goal this season and with Real Madrid sniffing around, one of Man United’s main priorities in the next six months is surely to get the Spaniard to sign a new deal.
