Bayern Munich eyeing £35m Kevin de Bruyne move – report

by Ben Topliss

Bayern Munich are planning a £35m move for Wolfsburg’s Kevin De Bruyne in the summer according to Bild in Germany.

De Bruyne has registered a Bundesliga-best 21 assists and 14 goals in all competitions this season and his outstanding form has helped Wolfsburg to second in the Bundesliga and into the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Despite the good form of Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini, Manchester United are said to be interested in the attacking midfielder. Earlier this season, van Gaal admitted he wanted to sign new midfielders in the summer and De Bruyne’s impressive performances in the Bundesliga speak for themselves in terms of showcasing his abilities.

However, Bayern appear to have stolen a march on their rivals by putting together a big money package and a transfer to Munich may be more appealing for De Bruyne given how bad a time he had at Chelsea.

Although the 23-year-old is a quality player, it is odd for United to be linked with him as they haven’t exactly got a dearth of talent in the position.

As well as Mata and Fellaini, Wayne Rooney, Adnan Januzaj, Angel di Maria and Ander Herrera can all play in the role. Van Gaal would be wise to prioritise other positions such as central defence and central midfield when the transfer window opens in order to bring some much needed balance to his squad.
