Manchester United have agreed a £36.9m deal to bring Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi to the club in the summer, according to various reports.
Reports claim the 27-year-old will arrive to Old Trafford at the end of the season having agreed to United’s terms.
In January there were multiple claims which said United had a bid for Otamendi rejected, so van Gaal would have had to be insistent on signing the Argentinian to have gone back with more than one bid.
United boast one of the best defensive records in the Premier League but this has largely been down to the excellent form of David de Gea as opposed to a rock solid defence.
Otamendi would certainly be in good company at the club with compatriots Angel di Maria and Marcos Rojo also in the team.
His arrival would create an Argentinian collective and alongside the already existing Spanish collective, it might not be long before the menus at Carrington are written in Spanish!
