The agent of former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has dismissed speculation he will leave current club Inter Milan to return to England.
Rio Ferdinand and Vidic established a fierce partnership during one of Man United’s most successful ever periods but both players left the club last summer after suffering a downturn in form.
Vidic is said to be unhappy in Italy and there have been rumours of a return to Old Trafford but Silvano Martina, the Serbian’s agent, quashed any talk of a move back to United and said he will see out his contract with Inter.
Speaking about the speculation, Martina said: ”I think he should, yes, because he has another two years left on his contract. In fact, I want to reveal something.
“Last year he (Vidic) made a specific choice to come to Milan, even though Manchester United wanted to keep him and kept calling up to December.”
Although Vidic was undoubtedly one of the greatest defenders to ever play for United, his best years are definitely behind him and entertaining the thought of bringing him back to Old Trafford seems a backwards step.
Louis van Gaal should look elsewhere if he wants to improve his backline with Mats Hummels, Raphael Varane and Aymeric Laporte linked to the club in recent months. The 63-year-old may even decide to make do with what he has as Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have enjoyed a fine few weeks at the heart of United’s defence. Smalling in particular put in a fantastic performance against Liverpool in the 2-1 victory at Anfield last weekend.
