Juan Mata‘s performance against Liverpool was almost certainly his best in a Manchester United shirt.
Both of his goals were equally as brilliant in their own right; the first was a crafted finish with his right foot into the side netting and his second, well, people will be talking about that overhead kick at Anfield for years to come.
As we’ve already said this week, the quality of his performance went further than just his goals. He may have been playing in a wide position but he was an inverted winger on the day and his ability to drift inside to make a quick pass and move really helped United played fluid football.
Earlier this season when Wayne Rooney was suspended, Mata had an opportunity to cement his place in the first-team but failed to do so with underwhelming performances.
However, he has earned his stripes this time around in the last two games and can consider himself a firm fixture in the starting XI now for the foreseeable future.
