Louis van Gaal given £100m to spend – report

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will be given at least £100m to spend on players in the summer if the team qualifies for the Champions League.

According to Mail Online, van Gaal will abandon Man United’s previous policy of signing younger players and prioritise established, world-class talent.

Mats Hummels is top of the Dutchman’s wishlist while Kevin Strootman, Paul Pogba and Gareth Bale are also on his radar.

Memphis Depay, Nathaniel Clyne and Danilo are also being looked at as United look to add balance to their squad.

United spent upwards of £150m last summer on the likes of Angel di Maria, Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera and Radamel Falcao but the moves haven’t worked out quite as van Gaal may have hoped.

Di Maria has reportedly fallen out with the 63-year-old and is looking for a way out of the club, while Falcao has been occupying the bench having completely lost his confidence.

Fans will be pleased to hear that van Gaal hasn’t been put off and will continue his spending spree at the end of the season. Of course, this all depends on whether or not United finish in the top four of the Premier League, although they want a long way to achieving that aim by beating Liverpool 2-1 last weekend.
