Chris Smalling had to be taken off during England’s friendly against Italy tonight with suspected concussion.
The England defender only lasted 41 minutes having to leave the field and fellow Manchester United team-mate came on in his place.
Given how excellent Smalling’s form has been for Man United, fans are understandably concerned to see Smalling go off with such important games coming up against Aston Villa, Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton.
It would be typical of United’s season for injuries to creep back in and take some momentum away after the excellent wins over both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

Hopefully Smalling’s withdrawal was nothing more than precaution and when it comes to head injuries and concussion, there is always a big risk, so it was certainly the right decision to take him off.
We’ll bring you the latest on Smalling’s condition as soon as there is an update.
Update: The FA have since confirmed Smalling was substituted after feeling unwell.
