David de Gea: I’m learning from Victor Valdes at Manchester United

David de Gea believes Victor Valdes is helping him become a better keeper and person at Manchester United.

The former Barcelona man was brought to Man United by Louis van Gaal in January in a move which many considered to signal the beginning of the end of De Gea’s time at the club.

However, De Gea has remained United’s first-choice keeper while Valdes has occupied the substitute’s bench as the team’s No.2.

De Gea revealed he is learning a lot from Valdes and that he has been helping him cope with the pressures of life at Old Trafford.

Speaking about his relationship with Valdes, De Gea said: “Victor Valdes and I work very well together – I’m very happy to be with him. I’m learning so much from him, not just in goalkeeping terms given his immense experience, but also as a person.

“He’s a very straightforward guy with a lot of character. Moreover, he’s always ready to lend a hand, trying to help out with his advice, especially during games.”

There had been speculation that Valdes would not be happy with being a backup keeper so fans will be happy to hear of his good relationship with De Gea.

Hopefully, Valdes will also put him off a potential move to Real Madrid. De Gea has been heavily linked with the European champions this term.
