Robin van Persie could return from injury this weekend for Manchester United’s game against Aston Villa.
The latest reports suggest van Persie is ahead of schedule to return to Man United’s squad this weekend having been sidelined ever since the loss away to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium over a month ago.
Louis van Gaal will no doubt be delighted when van Persie returns and is available for selection but there are questions around where he fits into the Man United team after he returns or whether he fits at all.
United’s recent excellent performances have come with Wayne Rooney as a lone striker which would mean dropping him in order to accommodate van Persie or a change in formation to bring two up front. Given how well United performed against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, why would Louis van Gaal want to change anything?
United are going into a very tough quartet of fixtures off the back of a successful March in terms of results and have some great momentum. Due to that, van Persie may well find it hard to break back into the team.
