Fans’ view: Luke Shaw or Daley Blind at left-back for Manchester United?

by Ben Topliss

The performances of Daley Blind at left-back in Manchester United’s wins against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool has given Louis van Gaal a headache when it comes to his team selection.

Blind usually occupies a central midfield position but the Dutchman is equally as capable down the left flank, as he showed against Spurs and at Anfield.

Against Liverpool, the 25-year-old put Emre Can on his backside before winning the late penalty that Wayne Rooney eventually missed. His displays have put a question mark over Luke Shaw’s place in the team once he returns from injury.

We asked our Twitter followers who they think is United’s first-choice left-back between Blind and Shaw:

United fans are split down the middle on who they would play in the position.

Blind is going through a good run of form but it remains to be seen whether he can do it over a longer period of time. Meanwhile, Shaw has bags of potential and needs the games in order to aid his development. It is unlikely that van Gaal will change a winning side so it would be no surprise to see Blind line up there when United take on Aston Villa this weekend.
