Shaw has been sidelined for a number of weeks with a hamstring problem and Daley Blind has filled in at left-back.
It is the latest in a series of setbacks for the 19-year-old who has had to contend with a number of injuries this season and given that he had a fantastic fitness record at Southampton, Man United fans are frustrated that he has spent so much time on the sidelines.
Blind has excelled in Shaw’s absence and put in some impressive performances against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool recently.
Shaw’s debut season at Old Trafford has been stop start due to his fitness issues but the youngster has looked good whenever he has got on the pitch. Unfortunately, those occasions have been far and few between in comparison to what was expected of him when he joined for £27m in the summer.
Although Shaw will be very frustrated at how his debut season has gone so far but at 19, he has a big future ahead of him and it is important not to put too much pressure on him too early.
That being said, Louis van Gaal will be hoping that Shaw can kick on during the next campaign with a proper pre-season under his belt.
