There has been widespread speculation over the future of De Gea this season as the 24-year-old continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid.
However, Valdes is said to be convinced that De Gea will stay at United, meaning his first-team opportunities will be limited next season. Valdes will instead look to join Paris-Saint Germain or may even consider a sensational transfer to Madrid despite his strong connections to rivals Barcelona.
It is true the 33-year-old may be growing frustrated at United but he would have been well aware of the situation he was walking into when he signed in January given how good De Gea’s form had been.
Valdes is one of the most highly decorated players in Barcelona’s history and is still adored by fans of the club but at United he is rightly second fiddle.
Louis van Gaal knows Valdes won’t be happy staying as no.2 goalkeeper at Man United but unless De Gea leaves then there is little to no chance of that situation changing.
If the report is true, at least United can sell a player they signed on a free transfer. Valdes has also been able to give De Gea advice and provided an excellent back up option for Van Gaal, if only for a season.
