Manchester United will be on red alert after PSV manager Philip Cocu expects Memphis Depay to leave the club this summer.
The 21-year-old Dutch winger has been heavily linked with a move to Man United and Louis van Gaal was in Amsterdam to watch him in action during Netherlands 2-0 win over Spain during the international break.
Although his agent has denied any contact with United , Depay is widely considered to be one of van Gaal’s top targets this summer.
Now that Cocu has publicly admitted he feels Depay will leave the Dutch side this summer, it gives United a green light to make their advances.
“I think he’s ready for the next step and I think he will leave this summer,” Cocu said.
The thought of signing Depay is an exciting prospect for United fans after the outstanding season he has had at PSV. Currently, the winger has 20 goals in 30 appearances, a phenomenal return for a wide player.
United have historically built their teams on exciting, pacey and tricky wingers which is a category Depay falls perfectly into and with Louis van Gaal keen to permanently use a 4-3-3 formation, he ticks all the boxes.
At just 21, Depay has his whole career ahead of himself and will grow as a player wherever he moves, so he’ll only continue to get better over the years.
