Robbie Savage chooses David de Gea in his PFA Player of the Year shortlist

It’s not often Manchester United find themselves agreeing with Robbie Savage but fans won’t argue with his decision to nominate David de Gea for the PFA Player of the Year award.

Savage chose De Gea alongside Diego Costa, Harry Kane, Eden Hazard, Philipe Coutinho and Alexis Sanchez.

De Gea deserves all the praise he gets for this season because his individual performances have been worth so many points to United and he certainly deserves to be in the running for the award.

Writing about De Gea, Savage said: “De Gea has played in every minute of every Premier League match this season and his shot-stopping and all-round game has been magnificent.

“In front of him, United’s defence has changed constantly. But De Gea has held it together and is the biggest reason why only Chelsea and Southampton have shipped fewer league goals than United.

“He has been United’s man of the match time after time. If they finish in the top four, it will be mostly down to him.”

The odds are stacked against De Gea winning the award because he hasn’t got the glamour of goals but in terms of consistent, important and most importantly reliable performances, the Spaniard has been nothing short of phenomenal this year for United.

Last year De Gea was nominated Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Year at Man United’s end of season awards and you wouldn’t bet against him doing the double double this year either.
