The Spanish midfielder scored with his left foot in the first half and sealed the three points late in the game with a smartly taken finish right into the bottom corner.
However, it wasn’t just his goals which impressed United fans so much. His incisive passing was so dangerous throughout the whole game and if Antonio Valencia was able to make more of his through-balls, United could so easily have had more goalscoring opportunities.
Herrera is the whole package as a midfielder in terms of contribution. A tough tackling, gritty player with real endeavour and energy, the 25-year-old was constantly on the move against Villa and made it impossible for him to be marked out of the game.

At one point this season, Herrera was being kept out of the team by Louis van Gaal. He had to feed off scraps and substitute appearances. Yet, going into the two most crucial games of the season so far, he has made himself completely indispensable to Louis van Gaal and is now rightly considered one of the first names on the team sheet.
