Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has hailed Ander Herrera following his two-goal performance against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Herrera was sublime at Old Trafford and capped off an impressive display with a pair of fine goals.

The result lifted Man United up to third in the Premier League, one point ahead of Manchester City who have a game in hand.

Van Gaal was delighted with Herrera and revealed he kissed him at the break after he scored his side’s opening goal.

Speaking about Herrera, van Gaal said: ”He has a very good kicking technique and should only be more composed. I told him ‘you have to control the ball before you shoot’, and then I kissed him at half-time because he had controlled the ball for the first time in his life and then he shot.

“But then I came after the second half to him and he said ‘without control I can do it also!”

Herrera is going through a fantastic run of form for United and dominated the midfield against Villa.

It is good to see van Gaal express such affection for the Spaniard after he had left him out of the team earlier in the campaign. Herrera is firmly establishing himself as a crucial part of United’s side and will be looking to continue his good run against City in the team’s next game.
