Luke Shaw will be available for Manchester United’s tie against Aston Villa this weekend.
The 19-year-old has been sidelined with a hamstring injury but in his pre-match press conference, Louis van Gaal revealed he had been back in training for the last week.
He went on to confirm later in his press conference that Shaw was in his group of available players.
“We have a process for injured players in the medical department, they then go to a football coach for tests and then to me,” van Gaal said.
“Robin still isn’t with the football coach. He’s still not in my group. Luke Shaw is in my group, that’s different, but van Persie isn’t available.”
Fitness may have been standing in the way of Shaw’s return to the starting XI but so is Daley Blind, whose superb performances at left-back arguably make him a better current choice for the position.
Van Gaal admitted he couldn’t change Marouane Fellaini out of the team right now because of how good his form is and that should be the case with the rest of the starting XI.
Coming into the Villa game off the back of two convincing wins, United’s team will be full to the brim with confidence and van Gaal will want to change as little of that team as possible, so Shaw will more than likely find himself on the bench if he is included in the match day squad.
