Manchester United are seriously interested in signing Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling and have made their interest known, reports The Sun’s Neil Custis.
The 20-year-old’s future has been in the press this week after he confirmed he had turned down a £100,000 a week offer.
Arsenal were immediately linked with Sterling and now United’s name has been thrown into the hat.
There’s more chance of Balotelli ending the season with 20 goals than Liverpool willingly selling a player to United, let alone their best player by a garden mile, but Custis firmly believes the interest is genuine.
Jose Mourinho has given his opinion on the Sterling situation and helped keep it on the lips of everybody by saying he would sell him if he were a Chelsea player.
Sterling was a boyhood United fan so he’s got some affinity with the club prior to joining Liverpool but, seriously, Sterling to United? The fallout would be almost nuclear between the clubs.
As for the £50m price quoted, there’s not a chance Sterling is worth that. He’s a cracking talent and was named European Golden Boy of 2014 but aged only 20, there are no guarantees he can be the real deal in the long term.
There’s very little chance of Sterling, or any Liverpool player, moving to United any time soon but don’t expect that to stop reports such as these emerging until such time as Sterling signs another new deal or leaves the club.
