Van Gaal’s side were lauded during March following a pair of impressive victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
However, van Gaal will not be satisfied until he receives from Ferguson, who is widely regarded as the club’s greatest ever manager.
Speaking about the team’s praise, van Gaal said: “The comments of legends are always important because they have a lot of fans, and fans are listening to the legends.
“It’s nice for Manchester United. It’s nice for the players, and also nice for the manager when legends are saying that. If, for example, Ferguson says that I am more proud because as a manager he can judge what is the achievement much better than ex-players.
“It’s difficult to speak with him. But we have made a (dinner) appointment and he shall pay – that is very important!”
Van Gaal has a long way to go to match Ferguson’s achievements at the club but he has made a good start to life at United.
Although the team will likely end up without a trophy this season, van Gaal has brought an element of stability back to United following the disastrous reign of David Moyes last term. A couple of top-class signings in the summer could well make United title challengers in the next campaign under the leadership of the Dutchman.
