Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has praised Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera for the recent form he has shown at Old Trafford.
Herrera scored two goals in a 3-1 win against Aston Villa on Saturday and was also key to the club’s important victory against Liverpool little over a fortnight ago.
Supporters were dismayed to continually see the Spaniard on the bench during a two-month period where the 25-year-old didn’t start a single league game after a bright start to life at the club.
Now, Herrera has fought his way into United’s first-team and his determination is something which has impressed both the fans and pundits alike.
“Herrera is a good technician but he likes a tackle. I like that about him. At Anfield he was not afraid to take on Steven Gerrard after he saw Gerrard go through his pal Juan Mata. He does not fear reputations and stood up to Gerrard. The rest is history.
“I met him in a London restaurant and he was a bright kid who clearly loves life in England. He’s had to be patient, but now he’s starting to show his class.”
An injury to Daley Blind in a league game against Burnley gave Herrera an hour to impress and his performance ensured he has started every league game since, influencing United’s midfield positively with his forward thinking style of play.
If his form continues as it is now, he’ll be hard to shuffle out of the side no matter who arrives in this summer’s transfer window.
