Manchester United want to sell Robin van Persie this summer – report

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United have no intention of extending Robin van Persie‘s contract with the club and intend to sell him this summer, reports David McDonnell at The Mirror.

The 31-year-old’s current deal expires in 2016 but there has been no approach from Man United to extend that contract in order to look towards a summer exit for the Dutchman.

Van Persie has spent a significant amount of time on the sidelines this season and is currently on the injury table with no return date given, meaning Louis van Gaal‘s side are heading into the crucial double header against Manchester City and Chelsea without him.

In his debut season for the club, van Persie was the catalyst. He spearheaded United to the title but following Sir Alex Ferguson‘s retirement, he hasn’t reached those heights since and it comes as no surprise to hear these reports from The Mirror.

Van Persie was wonderful in his debut season and re-paid every penny of the £24m paid by United but he has been a shadow of himself ever since returning from an exhaustive World Cup campaign he seemingly never recovered from.

While there are no guarantees he will be leaving in the summer, on paper it does look like it could be the right time for van Persie to leave.
