Chelsea enter race for Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin and Nathaniel Clyne – report

Chelsea have entered the race to sign Manchester United targets Morgan Schneiderlin and Nathaniel Clyne, according to the London Evening Standard.

Jose Mourinho is looking at Schneiderlin as an alternative to Paul Pogba as he does not want to pay the £60m it would take to prise him away from Juventus.

The Stamford Bridge outfit also want to capitalise on Clyne’s contract uncertainty as he only has a year left on his current deal.

Clyne and Schneiderlin have both impressed for Southampton this season but look destined to leave the club.

Schneiderlin recently revealed his desire to play for a team in the Champions League while Clyne is reportedly undecided over a new contract at St Mary’s.

Both players have been linked with Man United as Louis van Gaal looks to expand his options should they qualify for Europe’s elite competition next season.

Chelsea have lost out to United before in the transfer market after van Gaal beat them to the signature of Luke Shaw last summer so Mourinho will be keen to come out on top should they go for Schneiderlin and Clyne.

Mourinho has money to spend after the club agreed a sponsorship deal with Yokohama Rubber but the hope for United fans is that any potential signings will prefer the allure of Old Trafford.
