Guessing Manchester United’s starting XI for a match used to be the footballing equivalent of buying a lottery ticket. You certainly had more chance of winning the lottery than correctly predicting a Sir Alex Ferguson side.
Yet now, Man United have found a level of consistency in both personnel and performances. It’s startling from a United fans’ perspective and impressive in equal measure.
Ahead of this weekend, the starting XI does once again seem very predictable in all the right ways but as we look at different potential formations, £27m summer signing Luke Shaw returns to this one.
If there’s one thing which Shaw has over Blind then it is pace, both in attack and defence. Up against the nimble feet of Jesus Navas, would it be a completely ill informed move to bring Shaw back into the team over Blind?
Probably. After all, it is a derby and the atmosphere will be thick with hostility, so maybe it isn’t the right time for Shaw to come back into the team.
