Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has insisted he is happy at the Bernabeu despite speculation over where his future lies.
Manchester United and Chelsea have both been linked to Varane, who moved to Madrid from Lens back in 2011.
Former Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer of the 21-year-old and has kept tabs on him ever since quitting Spain in 2013 while Louis van Gaal is considering making a move for Varane as an alternative to Mats Hummels.
However, the player himself appeared to rule out a move from Madrid by revealing he is happy at the club.
Speaking about the speculation, Varane said: ”I am focused on our season and we are going to give everything to win it all. I am happy here.”
United are in need of defensive reinforcements and have also been linked to the likes of Aymeric Laporte this season.
Van Gaal and United will know a player’s word does not carry much weight in football and it is likely Varane simply spoke of his commitment to Madrid in order to appease their fans.
United supporters know this all too well, after Cristiano Ronaldo insisted he wanted to stay at Old Trafford before going to Madrid two weeks later. It goes to show just how much can be happening behind the scenes.
