PSV accept Memphis Depay is leaving but players convincing him to stay

Southampton’s Eljero Elia has urged Memphis Depay to reject a big money move to a European powerhouse this summer.

PSV have seemingly accepted Depay is going to leave following comments from coach Phillip Cocu and technical director Marcel Brands but it hasn’t stopped players voicing their opposition to the move.

Elia, who is close friends with Depay, believes he should remain at PSV for another and play Champions League football with them.

“I think it will be best for him if he stays in Eindhoven”, Elia said.

“My feeling is he should play in the Champions League for PSV. In that way he would already have the experience of playing at the highest level in his locker before he makes a move at 22.

“PSV don’t need the money and I feel Memphis also doesn’t need it as he signed a nice contract recently.”

Depay will leave PSV, that much is clear given how good he is, but whether he does this summer is the question at hand.

Elia isn’t the first player to warn Depay against leaving PSV as Jermain Lens has also told him to avoid a move, for the time being at least. It all depends on Depay’s state of mind as to whether he is affected by those around him who are encouraging him to stay.

If he feels ready, why shouldn’t he move this summer? After all, Louis van Gaal would welcome him with open arms.
