Real Madrid to hold talks with Manchester United over Javier Hernandez

by Richard Laverty

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has praised Manchester United loanee Javier Hernandez after he scored a rare La Liga goal against Eibar on Saturday.

It was just his fourth strike in a handful of starts since joining the Spanish giants in September when United brought Radamel Falcao into Old Trafford.

The Mexican, who remains popular among fans in Manchester, was handed a rare start as Ancelotti chose to rest first choice striker Karim Benzema with a Champions League quarter-final on the horizon.

Hernandez scored a neat header to put Real 2-0 up and the former Chelsea boss confirmed the club will discuss the player’s future at the end of the season.

“Chicharito played very good,” Ancelotti said after Madrid’s win today.

“He’s still a Manchester United player but we will hold talks at the end of the season.”

Hernandez was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford after struggling for regular game time under David Moyes last season.

Despite the departure of Danny Welbeck, an unimpressive performance on the opening day of the season against Swansea gave Louis van Gaal more reason to bring in Falcao and give more chances to young striker James Wilson.

Even if Madrid don’t take up an option on Hernandez, it’s unlikely Old Trafford will be his permanent home beyond the summer.
