Jurgen Klopp unsure if Borussia Dortmund can keep Mats Hummels

Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed his captain Mats Hummels is contemplating his future at the struggling Bundesliga club.

Whilst Dortmund have pulled themselves well away from the relegation zone, they still sit well outside the Champions League spots and lost 3-1 to Borussia Mochengladbach on Saturday afternoon.

Hummels was extensively linked with a move to Manchester United last summer and those links have been intensified both by Dortmund’s poor form and United’s struggling defence during the earlier part of the season.

Speaking ahead of Dortmund’s game on Saturday, Klopp confirmed that Hummels has told him he is considering his future.

“He told me that he thinks about his future,” Klopp said today.

“That’s why I don’t need to think about it. We are always on the lookout. We want to keep Mats and that is beyond question, but how that works out, I don’t know. There’s always a list of players who would be interesting in the event that you need them.”

Hummels has quashed rumours of ‘promising’ to join the club if he left Germany but has consistently refused to rule out a move away when quizzed on his future.

Despite an improving defensive record, it’s almost certain Louis van Gaal will continue his pursuit of Hummels this summer and it appears there will never be a better time to make a move.
