Manchester United legend Bryan Robson believes Louis van Gaal’s success at Old Trafford is down to his “unswerving confidence” rather than luck.
Man United have been criticised at various points this season but five wins on the bounce have seen van Gaal’s side strengthen their grip on the top four of the Premier League.
Robson explained that van Gaal’s confident management style has been key for United over the course of the campaign.
When asked if van Gaal had been lucky or brilliant this term, Robson said: “Look at his record, that’s not luck. He has unswerving confidence in himself. I’ve witnessed at first hand the way he tells players bluntly what he wants. It’s not meant in a rude way but it helps.
“As a player if you’re told sharply what’s required there’s no grey area, you prefer that. He’s made subtle changes, like Juan Mata no longer being exposed for pace due to where he plays.”
Despite their troubles this season, players such as Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao haven’t publicly criticised van Gaal in the press.
It goes to show just how much respect the United players have for van Gaal, despite the demands he places on them on the pitch. After David Moyes reportedly lost the dressing room while in charge of United last season, it is good to see.
